The October Grab Bag is here...and oh so much more!

Hey Ya’ll! There has been a lot going on up in here so grab a Diet Dr. Pepper, some Cheez-Its, and get comfortable. You’re gonna be here for a minute!

STANDARDS NIGHT
Standards Night is an event that is usually held for the youth once a year. It can be held on a ward level (congregation) or a stake level (district).

Our Standards Night was last week and was held on a Stake Level. Standards Night is a night of talks and/or programs that reaffirm the standards that we expect our youth to adhere to.

I was very proud that Joel was asked to be on a panel of seven youth to answer questions about how they would handle situations varying from modest dress standards to sexual purity. He did so well and he looked so handsome on the stand. Nice and tall in a suit and tie. My boy.

The night was so enjoyable. The evening began with two young women bearing their testimonies and was followed by speakers that gave AWESOME talks on choosing media that is uplifting (music, TV, movies, reading material, etc.), friendship, and education. At the end the youth all sang to their parents and leaders. I won't lie...I got a little misted.

Usually I have a very hard time sitting still for much more than an hour but the speakers were excellent! Mr. Wresh and I enjoyed every minute!

FOOTBALL SEASON
Ryan’s football season is almost over and I am a little sad.

I will not miss the skeeters biting my feet but I do so love watching my boy! Ryan had a game last night and got two flags (it’s flag football) and a touchdown. Go Baby Go!!!

UPSIDE DOWN CLOWN
Matthew has discovered that he is very comfortable upside down these days.

I find him like this quite often lately and I think it is hilarious.

My poor little one has had a little cold this week and his voice sounds like he has been smoking unfiltered cigarette for 40 years. It is pretty funny. Man I love that kid.

Here is Matty with my visiting teachers Stacy and Lacy.

THE SECRET
I know this is another game that I am totally late to. Have any of ya’ll read this book or seen the movie?

I have been listening to the audio book while I am working on the computer and I am a changed woman! OK not just yet...but I am on my way to being a changed woman!

I am not normally into anything “New Age-y” but this book just makes so much sense to me. So much so that I ordered the movie off of ebay!

This books message is so phenomenal and I really hope each of you will read it. I believe it has the power to make a serious difference in your life!

I know I sound like a goofy zealot but it really is a wonderful message!

If you have read the book you may be interested in this weeks vinyl offering. It is one of the affirmation techniques that the books teaches. Ask, Believe, Receive.

This vinyl wall art is 21 inches long and about 13.5 inches in height. The colors available for this offer are black, white, cream, and brick red.

This special offer is for $14 including shipping in the Continental U.S. and $20 for international orders.

I realize it says "International" above the drop box...I can't get it to go away! If you are in the Continental US please select the $14 option and if you are international please select the $20 option. These amounts include your shipping costs!

Please make sure the shipping addresses on your Pay Pal addresses are accurate as well!

AMANDA ROCKWELL
Dude – I totally met Amanda Rockwell.

Joedee, the owner of Elemental Scraps, lives right around the corner from me and she is friends with Amanda Rockwell. I was talking to Joedee the other day and she said that Amanda was coming to visit (she lives in Tucson about 90 minutes away).

Of course I trotted right on over to meet her. I am embarrassed to say that I totally brought my camera and acted like a total stalker weirdo.

I know it may seem strange to some people (like my husband) but I get totally star struck by digi designers that I admire and Amanda is certainly one of them!

Just so you know she is TOTALLY gorgeous and super nice!

DID I MENTION MY KIDS ARE GENIUS’S?
Cause they are.

Last week Ryan had his first spelling test (30 words in 1st grade….whoa) and he got 100% on his test! He also got 100% on his phonogram test! Smarty Pants.

While I am bragging on my little Wreshling’s I must also mention that Joel got 100% on his math test in Algebra II. Braniac.

As far as Matty goes I am assuming he is brilliant too. I will tell you that the other day when the little boys were playing Ryan called out,

“Moooooom…Matty is trying to be an evil genius.”

They kill me.

PUMPKIN PRALINE MUFFINS
My husbands employees came in to do some voluntary overtime this weekend so I wanted to make them some treats to thank them. They turned out so yummy and I thought I would share the recipe with you.

Pecan Topping (I doubled this part)
1/3 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/3 cup pecans
1 tablespoon butter

Batter
1 2/3 cups packed brown sugar
2/3 cup oil
2 teaspoons vanilla
4 large eggs
one 15 ounce can of pumpkin (not pie filling)
3 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 ½ teaspoons pumpkin pie spice or cinnamon
¾ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon baking powder

Preheat the oven to 350 and line muffin tins with muffin liners.

Make the pecan topping by combining all three ingredients until crumbly and set aside.

Make the batter. Combine the sugar, oil, vanilla, eggs, and pumpkin. Stir in the remaining ingredients. Fill each liner about 3/4th of the way full.

Sprinkle the pecan topping on top of each muffin and bake for about 20 minutes.

I started checking mine at about 18 minutes with a knife to see if it came out clean until they were done.

The spices made the house smell good and the smell of pumpkin in the house this time of year is always so nice.

THANKSGIVING
I am so excited. We are heading to Gardnerville, Nevada for Thanksgiving this year at my sister-in-laws house. We don’t get to see them very often so going for the Holidays will be a treat and I won’t have to burn the crap out of another turkey.

Shabby Miss Jenn actually lives in Gardnerville which is kind of funny because it is kind of a small little town!

SLEEPING WITH THE ENEMY
Surfing the web last week I saw a picture of someone’s pantry that was a hot mess and it actually made my chest a little tight.

My sister makes fun of what she calls my “Sleeping with the Enemy” Pantry and cupboards. You would have to have seen the movie to understand why that is funny in a demented sort of way.

Ya’ll know I am an touch OCD but it is just about the weirdest things. Don’t come to my house and think there won’t be dust bunnies or anything…cause folks…there are…but there are certain things that must be certain ways for me (yeah I know – control issues – blah blah blah) and my pantry is one of those things. I know…I need help. If my husband wants to drive me straight up a wall he can just go into the pantry and start turning things so that they are not face forward. Arrrgghh!!!!

PAJAMA POTLUCK CONFERENCE WEEKEND
Next weekend there won’t be any church because it is General Conference Weekend.

General Conference is twice a year. It is held the first weekend in April and the first weekend in October.

A few years ago when I was The Young Woman’s President my Secretary Becca (her blog link is over on the right) and I took the girls to Conference and we had the best time. Here are just a few of the pictures of our trip. This was in October of 2004.

A picture of the Salt Lake City Temple taken from observation deck of the Church Offices Building.

After my grandfather was baptized my grandparents and my mother and her older sister (three more children came later) were sealed in this temple by Spencer W. Kimball.

The Young Women and I at the Church's Art and History Museum in front of a statue of Moroni...it was huge!

Sitting in the Conference Center before the Session Started on Sunday. We were there when Elders Dieter F. Uchtdorf and David A. Bednar were sustained as new apostles. Isn't that neat? It was so wonderful when President Hinckley came out and waved his cane at all of us!

After the morning session on Saturday with the Young Women

Outside the Conference Center before the Saturday Session.

Conference is Saturday and Sunday. Both days there are two sessions. On Saturday Joel is going to a Youth Conference Party. One of the Young Women is having a bunch of kids over to her house to watch both sessions on Saturday.

On Sunday we are having a Pajama Potluck between sessions (from 11:15 – 12:45) and it is a “come as you are” party!

One of the nice parts of watching conference at home is not having to get dressed up…you can watch it in your pajama’s!

We invited three of the families that live in our neighborhood, The Greer’s, The Koozer’s, and The Fuller’s. Between our family and all of our friends we will have 24 people here for brunch!

I am making a big batch of breakfast quiche casserole, and my neighbors are bringing fruit, biscuits, and orange juice.

Joel is going to be in charge of making a quiz up based on questions created from the morning session of conference and the families will compete against each other to answer the questions and win fabulous prizes!!!

We used to have Sunday lunches all the time and it fostered wonderful relationships. Now that our ward has split so many times I am excited to start this tradition again!

President Monson. One of my favorite things about President Monson is his great love of the written word, poetry especially, and how he often incorporates it into his messages.

CHRISTMAS QUILTS
I have officially started my Christmas Crafting. Some of the gifts we will be giving this year are tied Christmas Quilts. I purchased the materials last week and started cutting all the lengths this weekend. I love this time of year!!!

You can see a little tutorial on how to make a tied quilt here.

GRAB BAG
For those of you who want to pick up October’s Grab Bag a little bit early…here it is!

You can purchase the bag here on my blog and I generally have the links to you within 2 hours unless you make your purchase when we are asleep at night!

If you would like to see the contents before purchasing the bag you can check it all out at www.mrswreshgrabbags.blogspot.com.

It will be available at TheDigiChick on Thursday, October 2, 2008.

The Scrapbook Convention, Fairy Doors, a Freebie, and so much more!!!

I hope ya'll had a great week! I have lots to share with you so let's get started!

First though...did ya'll notice that I fixed my header! I changed it up a little and I think it looks so cute...plus you can see our picture now!

THE SCRAPBOOK CONVENTION
Well there is good news and bad news about the Scrapbook Convention.

The good news is that I had such a good time with my friend Molly. Molly is one of those friends that knows all the worst things about you. You can tell her when you have thought (or done) something you shouldn't have...and it just doesn't matter...she still loves you.

Those kinds of friends are hard to come by. Thank for going with me Molly...sure love ya sister!

The bad news is the Convention was kinda boring. There was really not a lot that was new or exciting. We still managed to find a few treasures to take home so it could not have been all bad!

Here are some pictures of the day.

Lots of layouts to see and buy.

Sure love you Molly!

LUNCH AT MRS. WHITES GOLDEN RULE CAFE
After we left the convention we were hungry and headed out to get some lunch. I am not a fan of eating at chain restaurants...mom and pop places are always so much better.

Let me tell you...it doesn't get much more mom and pop than Mrs. White's Golden Rule Cafe in Downtown Phoenix.

Molly had never been there so I asked here if she was up for an adventure!

You cannot judge Mrs. White's Golden Rule Cafe by the looks alone. The outside is brick painted gold (natch) with simple signage. Inside the decor is sparse...if at all. The menu is scribbled on the wall in handwriting that is less than perfect.

Over the years many celebrities have eaten at Mrs. White's and often are invited to autograph the walls...so the walls are covered with Sharpie Marker autographs...largely from black celebrities, athletes, and politicians. It is very cool.

The food at Mrs. Whites is a mix of Soul Food/Southern Food and it so dang good. Molly and I had Chicken Fried Steaks, Red Beans and Rice, Black Eyed Peas, Yams, Corn Bread, and Lemonade. Then we moaned and groaned all the way home about how full we were.

I have been there a half dozen times or so and it is always good. Mr. Wresh was thrilled with the leftovers I brought home. He is a fan of the Cat Fish at Mrs. White's.

Seriously...if you are in Downtown Phoenix head on over for lunch...your belly will thank you for it!

The menu scribbled on the wall.

Did I mention they also serve Ox Tail? Yum.

More pictures of the interior.

The counter.

I tried to take a picture of all the yummy food for ya'll to see but Molly's boobs are the real stars of this picture.

Nice rack sis.

While we were eating an older couple came in to have lunch and sat in the booth behind us.

Everyone in the restaurant came over to take pictures with them, shake hands, or just to say hello.

Molly and I, of course being extremely nosy, asked our waitress who he was.

It turns out that the gentleman sitting behind Molly is Mr. Calvin C. Goode. He is a former Phoenix City Council Member and Civil Rights Activist. He even has a building in Phoenix named after him! He seemed very kind, said hello to us, and gave us a sweet smile!

Mr. Calvin C. Goode

IT'S THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR!
Let me tell you...I am positively HIGH. From about right now until after the New Year is my favorite time of the year.

I love the holidays so much! I love the decorating, the activities, baking, planning, shopping, being busy, feeling overwhelmed in a good way...I love all of it!

Not only do we have the holidays but there are also lots of family birthdays this time of year...Ryan, my nephew Chase, Mr. Wresh, and my niece Margaret all have birthdays too, so it is a really special time of year!

This week we took out some (not all!) of our Halloween decorations!

Check 'em out!

This is Fred. Fred is dead. He is hanging out in our front door window.

Do you like my No tacky No Soliciting Sign? I just hate door to door sales.

THE FAIRY'S ARE MOVING IN!
Oh my gosh...I must be a little late to the game but I just found out about Fairy Doors!

Have you seen these little things?

They have a TON that you can buy at Etsy.com

I bought this one for $10. When it comes I am going to install it in a wall in our house down near the base boards. Is it not the cutest?

The Fairy Door that will be "built" into one of our walls!

Getting a special delivery from Mr. and Mrs. Fairy

Last night we got a special delivery from the Fairies who are going to be moving into our house. It was a little scroll wrapped in a red ribbon that Daddy found on the front porch. This is what it said:

Dear Ryan, Matthew, and the Wresh Family

It is with great excitement that Mrs. Fairy and I are writing to let you know that we will be moving into your home!

I am Mr. Fairy and my wife is Mrs. Fairy. We are Good Luck Fairies. We like to live where there is much love and laughter and we think your home is the perfect place for us!

We are still packing our bags but soon you will find that we have built a little door into one of your walls. We will live inside the walls of your home. Don’t worry about us. We will have everything we need there! Please do not ever try to open our little door. We are very shy and if you ever saw us we would have to move away.

We love to bring good luck to special families. If you ever have a special problem that you need help with you can leave a note on the floor outside our door and we will do everything we can to help you! If you need some good luck on a test or with anything else...just let us know and we will rub magic good luck fairy dust all over the house while you sleep.

We know we will be very happy living with your happy family and cannot wait to bring you lots of good luck!

By the way...from time to time Mrs. Fairy and I like to leave special gifts. Sometimes it is gold coins and other times we like to leave little presents. We leave these gifts for you when we see you being kind to one another or trying hard to be your best in all that you do!

With Love,
Mr. and Mrs. Fairy

We are so excited about Mr. and Mrs. Fairy moving in! When their door gets here and they are all settled in we will post some pictures!

LAZY JACK-O-LANTERNS
This weeks vinyl offering is so fun! Vinyl for your pumpkin! This is a set of 4 faces that are each about 4.5 inches in height and width. You can cut them into different pieces and arrange them any way you like.

An added benefit of the vinyl is that you can use them to decorate your pumpkins earlier in the month. Then as Halloween draws near you can use them as a guide to carve your pumpkins. In doing this you can have decorated pumpkins all month without worrying about your pumpkins rotting too early and not being fresh and spooky on the big night!

These sets sell for $6.00 plus shipping of $3.50 in my Etsy Shop but you get them for $5.50 INCLUDING your shipping in the Continental US right here on my blog!

I also put 7 new products in my Etsy store this week so head on over and check out what is new! Remember I do all kinds of custom orders and you can always order custom lettering at my site http://www.remarkablewalls.com/!

The Buy Now Button to purchase these babies is down below!

THE DIGI CHICK HAS A NEW LOOK!
Ya'll run on over to TheDigiChick! The whole site has a new look and to celebrate the entire store is on sale for 20% off! Party on Wayne!
MR. WRESH'S NEW GOAL
Mr. Wresh has a new goal. It is a good one. I have been trying it myself (when I remember).
His new goal is to be Relentlessly Positive.

I know. It is a tall order.

The other day when my nerves were shot from the craziness of the day Mr. Wresh was so sweet. He tried to turn all the stressful happenings of the day into something positve to think about and appreciate. I was totally impressed that he was able to do it without being totally irritating! :)

Try it...let me know how it works for you!

Hairy Frosting, Cyclops, A Special, and a Freebie!

THE BOW
I have the saddest story to tell you.

Joel has been working on a bow (like a bow and arrow bow) for months now in Scouts. I have no idea how many hours he has spent creating it but I would guess it is in the neighborhood of 20-30 hours.

On Wednesday night Joel headed off to mutual. The activity for the night was to finish the bows and make the arrows.

I think you know what is coming...

Joel’s Scout Leader (who is the kindest man) went to test "the bend" of Joel's bow and it snapped in half. Isn't that the saddest? I felt so bad for the kid. His leader was so nice and gave him another bow he had made himself but I felt so sad for Joel.

We have joked at length about the amount of time this bow has taken to create. It seems like whenever I ask Joel what they are doing at mutual he says, "working on the bows". We have joked that it will be family heirloom passed onto his son...and now it is kindling.

The kid had such a great attitude about it. I think I am going to try to think of something crafty to do with the broken pieces to remind him that things don't always turn out the way we might like! :)

THE MASK
Now this is hilarious.

Ryan's new favorite cartoon is Phineas and Ferb. I actually think it is pretty darn entertaining myself.

In one of the cartoon episodes Phineas and Ferb's mom is shown wearing a sleeping mask. Ryan was totally intrigued. He wanted to know what that mom was wearing. When I explained that it was a sleeping mask Ryan decided that it was of the utmost importance that he have a sleep mask too.

Guess what? I just happened to have one!

My mom retired from being a flight attendant after 39 years of flying last year (go mom!) and she was always bringing those little things home from the plane that passengers didn't want. In one of the little care bags there were sleeping masks!

I whipped it out and Ryan was thrilled!

He has slept with it on all week. Mr. Wresh and I CRACK UP when we go in to kiss him goodnight and he is wearing it. The kid is a NUT!

THE CYCLOPS
I think we may have watched The Spongebob Movie one too many times. Matty’s new obsession is pretending that “The Cyclops” is chasing all of us thorough the house.

Have you ever hears a two year old try to say “Cyclops”? It is a riot.

NEW LAYOUTS
I have been trying to catch up on some of my own scrapping this week and I thought I would share a couple of my layouts with you!

They are both from our trip to Sedona last year for Mark’s birthday. Yes…I am a bit behind.
Anyhow…this first layout is of the two of us hiking Bell Rock in Sedona.

The templates are from Misty Cato and the kit is from the fabulous Nikki Beaudreau who is the Visiting Artist at TheDigiChick this month!

The kit is called Autumn Rain and I think the colors and elements were a perfect way to reflect the colors of Sedona.

This second layout is of our adventures in Uptown Sedona.

It was the “touristy” part of town but fun none the less! The template is a freebie template from Misty’s Blog and the kit is from Mary Fran and called Giddy Up.

HAIRY FROSTING

For those of you who have been around awhile you may recall that I have a "thing" for Tom Selleck. He is dead sexy.

In doing a little blog surfing this week I came across a blog that features professional cake wrecks as well as some off the wall cakes.

Amongst the offerings I found what I hope will be my very own cake on my next birthday (which is May 22…mark your calendars).

Mmm….hairy frosting. Delish!

MID MONTH BLOG SPECIAL!
Offer Expired

FREEBIE
This is also an oldie but a goodie.

I dusted off this paper pack that I made last year called Christmas at the Farm.

If you want to read more about it you can here. I know it is a little early but they are pretty and I thought you might like them!

And because I am so dang excited to go to the Scrapbook Convention tomorrow I decided to add another old release today as a freebie! Pick them up quick like!

OK - I will be back with pictures of Molly and Me at the Scrapbook Convention next week! Later Taters!

My Testimony

I have shared my testimony on my blog from time to time and I hope you won't mind indulging me today.

As Latter Day Saints/Mormons we have fast and testimony meetings, generally on the first Sunday of each month. This is a time for those attending the meeting to share their testimonies of Jesus Christ and His Gospel in an effort to stregthen their own testimonies as well as the testimonies of others.

As extroverted as I am (and I am) I have a very difficult time getting up in testimony meeting to share my own testimony. Often because I am scared that I will cry or worse...that I might not seem genuine.

As I sat in church today listening to others share their testimonies I felt such peace. Like so many of you times are difficult for our family right now. Usually a situation like this would throw me into a total panic until a solution was found. At some point this summer I realized (sadly) that I would not be able solve the economic issues overnight and that this situation will only be solved in time.

I also realized that being all stressed out and edgy would not do my family any good and I talked to my Heavenly Father about it. I told him that the stress of this situation was more than I could handle and that I needed for Him to carry this burden for me so that I could continue to care for my family and not be a basket case!

I know that we have been blessed by my Heavenly Fathers grace during this time. I have been able to remain focused on how truly blessed our family is. Our struggle is so very minor (like it doesn't even register on the "struggle" scale) in comparison to so many around us. We have lost our neighbors on both sides of us to forclosures. I know of many who are suffering with health issues and families who are dealing with issues of divorce and other difficulties.

At some point in the meeting today someone talked about Jesus knowing us each by name. Mr. Wresh leaned over and said, "Can you imagine the life we would all lead if we always remembered that? That Jesus knows us each by name?"

I have no doubt that Jesus Christ knows me by name. I know that He loves me and is aware of my struggles, no matter how small. I know that He is there to comfort me. I know that He wants only good things for me and sometimes that means there are lessons to learn. I know that when I asked Him to carry this load for me...He has. I only needed to ask.

I know that Jesus Christ lives and loves each one of us. I know that He knows my name and He knows your name and each one of us is of infinate importance to Him.

I say these things in the name of our Beloved Savior, Jesus Christ.

It's Fall Ya'll!

At least I hear it is...somewhere out there...
Here in the desert it is still flippin hot!

CHUCK E. CHEESE
Where a kid can flip his lid...I mean be a kid.

Last July my kids went to a birthday party at Chuck E. Cheese. Matthew was in heaven. Ever since then he has been asking to go back. Since he is only two his vocabulary is still somewhat limited so he would say, "Mama...we go have pizza (pronounced pi-ha) and play?".

And then he saw a commercial for Chuck E. Cheese and it was over...now he knew the name.

Everyday for the last two months he has begged to go and last night we did. It was such a little thing but seeing him sitting there bobbing his head to the mechanical mouse's band and eating soggy pizza I knew he was one happy little baby...those are the moments I treasure so much.

Right up until it was time to go...and Matty lost his little two year old mind. Ah...memories.

RYAN IS KILLING ME
Soooo...Ryan is killing me. If one day you log onto my blog and there hasn't been anything new for a few weeks just know that it happened. Ryan FRUSTRATED ME TO DEATH!

Ya'll know that Ryan started school last week. Well the school he goes to has homework every night. A little folder is sent home everyday that I have to review and sign. Easy enough right?

Wrong.

That little turkey keeps forgetting to bring home the folder. Then I have to call his teacher to ask her to bring it to the office (she actually sounded a little bugged yesterday) and then I have to pack up the kids and drag my cookies back down to the school in the heat of the afternoon.

If I didn't my OCD would keep me up all night fretting that Ryan had not written his phonograms 10 times each and if he didn't get into college it would be all my fault.

Ryan has been doing a little bit better focusing when it is homework time. Yesterday, after we were done with his math and phonograms I asked him to go to his room and read a book quietly for 20 minutes (part of his homework).

When 20 minutes passed I called for him. This was our exchange:

Mama: Did you read?

Ryan: No mama, but I did sing a cool song about Captain Underpants!

I told you...he is killing me....

CHOCOLATE SNOB
I don't know if I have ever said it aloud...or if I even need to...but I really love chocolate. I know...shocking.

Over time I have become a bit of a chocolate snob. A grocery store chocolate bar will do in a pinch but it really is not good chocolate.

I have found a new treat that is reasonably priced and YUM!

Maybe some of you have heard of it...especially European readers. Ritter Sport Chocolate.

They don't carry it at the markets, at least they don't out here, but you can pick it up here or where I found it...at Target. It is really good! Hey...if your going to consume a ridiculous amount of calories...let's make them good!

GUESS WHERE I AM GOING NEXT WEEKEND???
The CK Scrapbook Convention here in Phoenix. My friend Molly and I are going to have a baby free day just strolling the aisles of the convention center drooling ourselves silly. I am so excited!!!

MY WALLET WENT KAPUT
My wallet died last night at Chuck E. Cheese's register. Not the most dignified place for such a good little wallet to bite the big one. I went to zip up some change and the zipper just broke. I gotta tell you, silly as it seems, I am the tiniest bit distraught. I have had that wallet for at least six years. The leather was super soft so when I over stuffed it the clasp would still snap. I could even fit my keys inside of it. Bummer dude. Anyone have any good wallet tips? If you know where I can get a cool one let me know!
