We had the very best time...so I will start at the beginning!
THE RIDE
The ride is about 4 hours...really it should be more like 5 but Mr. Wresh likes to "make good time". I am sure many of you can relate!
We stopped in Yuma for dinner. Before we headed out of town I had yelped to find somewhere fun to go. Usually we just stop at the McDonald's off the freeway but when your traveling with little ones it behooves you to make the ride there part of the fun!
I quickly learned that a fun place to eat on the cheap was called Lute's Casino.
It was so much fun! If you ever find yourself in Yuma, AZ (hopefully not in the summer) you MUST go to Lute's!
Mr. Wresh and Joel had the "Especial". Anyone who can tell me what the "Especial" at Lute's Casino is will be entered in a drawing to win a link to the Wild Hair Collection...leave your answer in comments section! Wednesday night I will have Ryan draw name's! How is that for a prize baby?? :)
If you already purchased the Wild Hair Collection...well first off...thanks...and secondly...you can pick whatever you like from either my store are Scrapbook-Elements or at TheDigiChick!
If you don't know what the Wild Hair Collection is scroll down to the post from Wednesday, August 6th!
I had the tri-tip sandwich based on a yelp review...dude...it was really good.
After our bellies were filled and our bladders were emptied we hit the road again.
GETTING THERE
We got to Campland on the Bay pretty late...it was after 10pm...but that place was hopping!
The thought of even trying to tell you how cool this place is is so overwhelming to me...there is too much to tell!
Camping at Campland on the Bay (COB) is a different experience. You are only sort of roughing it.
We had our tent set up, chairs, you know...the usual...and we looked like the paupers of the joint. Camp set up's varied from what I am guessing were million dollar RV's, to Silver Bullets, to pop up campers, to tents. Kids were EVERYWHERE on bikes, scooters, big wheels, you name it.
After we got set up the kids went to sleep and Mr. Wresh and I went for a walk...we even kissed on the beach under the moon!!!
SATURDAY
Saturday Morning we got up and the first thing our kids wanted to do was to play on the playground that was directly behind our tent. It was a wonderful little park...I had decided to set my OCD behaviors aside for the weekend and proceeded to let my children get filthy...I only took out wipes to clean them up when it was making my chest tighter than I could bear!
After a romp at the park we decided that hot dogs and marshmallows sounded like a great breakfast. Actually Mr. Wresh wanted to offer the campers a few sites down cash money for one of the chorizo breakfast burritos she was whipping up. I think he was a little disappointed that I didn't have the Coleman out too. I just was not that invested in it!
After a hearty breakfast of hot dogs and marshmallows we were off to the beach baby!
We gathered up our sand toys, blankets, towels, and chairs.
The boys just loved it. I will let the pictures do the talking.
THE BEACH

...and just a final reminder...not all crack is whack!
SATURDAY AFTERNOON
Saturday afternoon we had a little lunch at the BBQ joint at COB and then decided we had all earned a well deserved nap!
After a snooze we headed up to the marina and rented paddle boats (a very reasonable $15). Let's just say that we won't be getting paddle boats again. It totally sucked. I mean, someone who was in shape might enjoy it. A couple of reality TV couch turds such as ourselves do not fall into that category. Mr. Wresh and I decided we might enjoy a motorized vessel a bit more next time!
For dinner Saturday night...get this...we ordered Dominoes Pizza! They will actually deliver to your camp site at COB! Is that a hoot? I really hate cleaning Coleman Stoves. Other campers were so excited to find out that they could order pizza too! You could hear mothers telling their kids, "Calm down...we will order pizza tomorrow!"
After dinner we had a devotional. We actually had mini devotionals before bed both nights and in the mornings.
Our devotional included singing a song, having a scripture, a spiritual thought, and a prayer.
It was nice to have these moments because it invited the opportunity to talk about the importance of times like these together as a family. Mr. Wresh encouraged the boys to remember these times...because these times are what it is all about!
Before bed we made s'mores over the fire and then watched SpongeBob DVD's on the laptop...dude...they even have WiFi there. How rad is that???
OH DEAR...NO BEER!
A funny thing happened when the family next to us was setting up camp on Saturday. Matthew was having a terrible two tantrum and I looked at them apologetically and said, "I am so sorry"...because that was really all I could do.
The mom just smiled and said, "Hey...no big deal as long as you share your beer we don't mind!"
I had to laugh and told her that it just was not her lucky day. She was camped next to Mormons so there would be no beer to share. I tried to console her with the idea that we would keep our yard very nice though!!!
SUNDAY
Sunday we woke up and decided we were a little too pink to hit the beach again. Mr. Wresh fired up the lap top and found a bitchin' deal for tickets to the San Diego Zoo! for $88 bucks we all got in and got free double decker bus tours and sky rides. Sweet.
Before we headed to the zoo we stopped for breakfast. I wish I would have taken note of the name of the diner...American something...it was yum!
Then we were off to the zoo! Matty promptly fell asleep so we thought it would be a perfect time to take the double decker bus tour!
THE SAN DIEGO ZOO!
The first stop was a tour of the zoo on a double decker bus!!
I am not going to bore you with pictures of all the animals there...just a few cute ones of the family and then something special...
AND THE VERY BEST PART OF THE ZOO...THE PANDAS!!!
They were so dang cute...so cute that you just cannot even believe they are real! They were napping and snacking on bamboo when we visited. What a treat!!!
The trip home was uneventful...a little stop for gas and burgers from Mickey D's in Yuma and we were on our way home.
I even have everything unpacked ,laundered, and put away. Are you totally impressed or WHAT???
We really had a great time...if you are able...get away soon...it's good for the soul. :)
I HAVE A SOPHOMORE!
I am much too young to have a son who is a Sophomore in High School...alas though...it is true! Joel's first day of school started yesterday. He was all dude-ed up in his finest Hollister gear ready to impress the ladies...um...I mean his teachers!!
THE BIG DEAL!
If you have not already picked up THE BIG DEAL or THE REALLY BIG DEAL you only have until Wednesday night to grab it! It really is stuffed!

Wow. Looks like you had a blast. The Especial sounds like something I would try with pickles.

The "Especial" (yay for Google) is a cheeseburger with a hot dog sliced on top of it, which sounds... disgusting... LOL! Hey, to each their own:)
Your trip looks like it was AMAZING!!!!!!!!! And seriously, how do you find the time to do such ginormous blog updates? It takes me a week to do an update a quarter of the size. Fun for us all to read, though:)

Hello from a wet & windy London (UK)
Sue
What fun! We plan on going to the beach soon ourselves.
Wow, it looks like you had a blast. I LOVE the shirts you all have on they are adorable.
My answer is: a combination cheeseburger and hotdog (a cheeseburger with hot dog slices on top I think it was described as).
sounds like ya'll had a blast! looks like it, too from the pics. Tell ya what, since you're already done with all your clean up stuff, want to come do my laundry? Can't blame a girl for tryin, can ya!? I totally forgot Nick had duty today & Justin (my youngest) had PT, so we've been off & running. I thought Nick was going to take him & I could take the other 2 boys to the store. Nope. lol Now I'm exhausted & ready for a nap. But there goes the timer..time to move laundry over to the dryer & put the next load in. Have a fantab rest of today!! OH.... the Especial is the world famous hot dog/cheeseburger combo...and it so sounds like something that I would NOT order. lol
It certainly looks like your Wild Hair idea was a fantastic one. You got some great pics too. I have to come up with a plan like that for out family too.
The Especial at Lute's sounds pretty interesting. I think my hubby would love it. It's the world famous hot dog/cheeseburger combo.
Kim,
I didn't purchase your "Wild Hair Collection" only because I have already purchased almost all of the items included, with the exception of the album templates which of course I would love. I hope this is the correct comments section to enter for the drawing & I'm not too late. The Especial at Lutes Casino is The world famous hot dog/cheeseburger combo. Oh... thanks so much for the free alpha. Very nice!
A Big Fan,
Mary G.
You can find me through the 2 orders I placed in the past few days at both Digi Chick & SBE. By the way, your GB's are always so nice to look forward to.
ok dude, i wasn't all over surfing the net for the especial... but seeing the answers you got... that is so something my husband would get too. i guess we'll have to find that (i can't believe my husband wouldn't know it already since he lived in yuma for almost a year at one point.) i'm glad you had a good time and that was totally a rockin' deal for tix to the zoo. i'll shoot an email off to my step dad and see if he can remember the name of the place you guys went to breakfast. it's a 50's style place with all kinds of old photos and memorabilia, right? if it's the place i'm thinking of we used to go there when i was younger - awesome breakfasts! (though i must say the best breakfast i've had in SD is at le peep. don't let the name mislead you, it's totally reasonable)
oh man - and the crack pic cracked me up - my husband made fun of me for taking a similar photo of our niece a few years back at the beach near del mar. i'm glad i'm not alone!
We went to the San Diego Zoo in May (we live in Missouri). The highlight for me was the koalas. I loved seeing the pandas too. I had to chuckle when I saw your pic. I have one of a panda in the same exact spot and position.
Glad you had a great time.
