The New Grab Bag is Here!!!

...but let's start with a little housekeeping first!

I am L-O-V-I-N-G my new blogwear from Shabby Princess. Isn't she talented? I love every little thing she does!

And I know...the picture on the header is too small. Getting it sized so it was centered was a pain in the arse and once it was centered I did not give a hoot that the picture looked too small.

Besides...ya'll know what I look like already. For any of you who might be new just know that I am a totally hot fat chick. And no. I did not mean phat. I meant FAT, you know, like I eat too much and exercise too little. That kind of fat. Thankfully I am exceptionally cute so I can usually get away with it. I also happen to have a great rack so I can't complain too much...at any rate...I digress...

I know it is too small and until I have some unnatural need to irritate the crap out of myself again it will be staying that way! :)

Before we abandon the subject of fat chicks altogether though I wanted to show this shirt I found on Etsy.com

How hilarious is that? I am totally getting it.

POLITICS
I am just going to go ahead and say it. You can be mad at me if you want to. I am a Republican. A moderate one...but a Republican none the less.

I am also not a huge fan of McCain. I need to feel moved by my elected officials and frankly he seems like an old grump.

I was all ready to get excited again with the thought that he might choose Mitt Romney as his running mate...but I was disappointed once again.

And no...I don't just like old Mitt because he is Mormon. I would be lying if I said it wasn't part of his appeal though. Awhile back I was talking to my girlfriend Rashidah (hey girl!) about politics and my feeling like it was bad that part of Romney's appeal was our shared faith.

Let me tell you..I love my girl Ra Ra (don't call her that unless you know her reeeeaaally well or she will get PISSED).

We are the perfect example of friends who are totally different (she is Black and Muslim and I am Pink and Mormon) and are able to have the most wonderful, thought provoking conversations about things that are generally, well not talked about, between folks as different as we are. I have learned so much from her over the lifespan of our friendship...anyhoo...

She said that while she did not support Obama solely because he is black it is certainly a draw. She assured me that looking for someone to represent you who reflects your values and heritage is a natural feeling. And so my guilty feelings about liking that Mitt is a Morman were assuaged.

We can talk about the lady from Alaska and how she wants to be Vice President even though she has a six month old baby another day :)

MONSOON
Here in Arizona we have a monsoon season. Usually I rather enjoy the monsoon storms. The temperature drops a bit and we get a lightening show from Mother Nature.

Last night was a bit much though. It was an insane storm that caused A LOT of damage here in the valley. If you are here in AZ I hope all is well and that you didn't have any damage!

PARANOID HUSBAND
So I get a call yesterday morning...it was my husband calling from work wanting to know if I was pregnant!

Apparently I had gotten up to go to the bathroom twice in the night and it FREAKED him out. Frequent trips to the bathroom are one of my hallmarks of early pregnancy and I generally do not get up to use the restroom in the middle of the night!

I was cracking up that he had laid in bed worrying all night. Mr. Wresh is DONE with baby making although I wouldn't mind rolling the dice again for a girl.

I assured him that I am not pregnant...I had just had a lot of water before bed! Poor thing!

RYAN IS A "GRADER"
Ryan is so excited to be a First Grader. You see, when you are in Kindergarten you are not in a "grade" but now he is...at least this is how he explained it to me!

Ryan started school this week and we resumed our after school battle of the wills over homework. Don't get me wrong, the kid is as smart as a whip, he just does not have the patience for practicing his handwriting.

If you give him a math homework sheet he will fly through it because he enjoys the problem solving...but a sheet to practice handwriting is torture to him. I literally sat with him for TWO HOURS while he farted around until it was finally done...arrgghh!!!

MAMA WRESH'S CHICKEN CHILI
My friend Virginia asked me if she could have my recipe for my Chicken Chili. I decided to post it online since fall is coming. Ya'll will LOVE this recipe. It is something I created out of necessity and it ended up being really good!

I had signed up for a Chili Cook Off at church and did not have any ground beef to make my regular chili. I didn't feel like packing up the kids to go to the market so I decided to use what I had on hand, which was chicken, and Mama Wresh's Chicken Chili was born!

2 pounds boneless chicken breast
olive oil to cover the bottom of your skillet
1 T Italian seasoning
2 cans of tomato sauce (I HATE stewed tomatoes)
1 16oz can of chili beans
1 16oz can of kidney beans
1 pkg (1.25oz) of chili seasoning mix
1 4oz can of green chili peppers
1 onion minced
1/2 cup water

In the skillet brown the chicken in the olive oil using the Italian seasoning as you cook it.
When it is cooked through remove it from the heat and cube the chicken.
Add the chicken along with the remaining ingredients to your slow cooker and cook on low for 8 hours.

That's it and it is delish. Make some sweet cornbread to go along with it and call it a night!

GOTTA LOVE A GOOD TEACHER
Guess what I got today in my email?

A message from Joel's Honors English Teacher. She just wanted to take a minute to let me know that Joel is doing great and a pleasure to have in class!

Can you believe that?

How great is that? A teacher taking the time to let parents know that a kid is doing great in class and a pleasure to have there.

What a concept.

So thanks Miss Miller. You made our night.

Of course Mr. Wresh and I TORTURED Joel for the better part of two hours about it.

Mr. Wresh told Joel that we had received an email from his English teacher and then asked him if he wanted to tell us what had happened this week in class.

Joel was of course clueless but nervous - assuming if the teacher had taken the time to email us it was not going to be good.

We finally let him off the hook after watching him sweat started to bore us. I know. We are the meanest parents ever...that's just how we roll...besides...these boys out number us...we have to keep them on their toes!

Glad you made it through that storm...we have downed trees all through the neighborhood from that doozie and as an added bonus my cats were able to bring in a wounded bird and finish doing him in...in my bed!!

I seriously love you!! You totally crack me up with your PHAT/FAT comments. I'm still laughing. I had to read it to my husband. We went out with some friends of ours last night and she is pregnant. She wasn't totally sure if I knew so she asked just to make sure so I "wouldn't think she was just getting fat." I'm at least twice as big as she is, even pregnant and she's worried about looking fat. I thought it was pretty funny. We totally need to get together one of these days. I totally miss you!!! Call me one of these days. Later DUDE!
