OK wait...before you say, "NO! I don't want to do hybrid"...just take a look. This particular album is 100% digital for the layouts. The only thing "hybrid" about it is how it is displayed...which is a chipboard album rather than a traditional album.
Did it take a little longer than slipping pages into sleeves? Yes. But I think it was so worth it. It turned out cute-cute-cute!
OK ready? Here we go!
Materials Needed:
Basic Grey Chipboard Album (Sweet Shoppe Designs carries them as well as some LSS and a variety of online sources)
Acid Free Adhesive
Scissors
File (a nail file will do just fine or you can purchase the Basic Grey file set...I *heart* them)
A few pieces of different ribbon that match your layouts
Some sort of hole puncher
1. Create your layouts in your software program. I used my Scalloped Album Templates (coming soon). You can get my Bracket Album here. These particular templates were created to use with Basic Grey chipboard albums.
The albums come with 8 pages. I made 1 cover page and 7 pages. You will also want to make 8 'back pages' to glue to the back of each page too. I just printed the same paper on 8 template shapes and cut them out. These albums and the templates are 6"x6".
I used Gina Cabrera's Book Bag Essentials Kit (I just love the simplicity of the papers) and Elements from Gina Miller Designs. I used her Funky Free Family Set (LOVE THESE) and her Ribbon Felties.
2. Print your layouts. I used some plain white card stock (nothing fancy) and printed on my own printer (usually I use Costco).
3. Once you have your layouts printed you will need to cut them out. Don't worry about getting everything perfect. You are going to be filing the paper down anyway so precision will not matter.
Take note of the Fred Flintstone toes...
4. Gather your materials and find a clean surface to work on. You will need your album, adhesive, hole punch, and file. Your Basic Grey Album comes with a little "o" ring to attach the pages.
5. Put your adhesive on the back of your pages and place them on the chip board page. Please take a look at where the hole is on each page and which way you want your page to be attached! Be sure to use acid free adhesive! Don't use too much or you'll have bubbles and be sure to get all around the edges!
6. Allow the pages to dry. It should not take too long.
7. Now we need to punch a hole before we add the backing.
8. Now glue the 'back page' to each of the chip board pages and allow those to dry as well. For my album I printed the same paper for all 8 pages but you could mix it up if you like too!
This picture has a bit of a glare but is intended to show you there is a paper glued to the front and the back of the chip board.
9. Now that you have the back page adhered to the page you will need to punch a hole again. Simply turn the page over and punch the hole through the one you made before on the front.
You will also need to remove a circle around the front page grommet. There are probably better techniques than I used. I just took a needle and poked around it and then removed it. Then I used a file to smooth down anything that looked rough.
10. Once it is dry take a file (nail file or scrap tool...whatever) and file down all the edges of the paper until they are flush with the chip board. I did this while watching a TV show.
11. It's time to put it all together. You should have a pile of pages now that looks like this.
It's time to put it all together!
12. Put all your pages on the "o" ring.
13. Now add some pretty coordinating ribbons to the "o" ring.
14. Find a fun place to display your album or give it as a gift! All of my traditional 12X12 albums are on a shelf in the entertainment center in the Family Room. My smaller albums and hybrid albums usually live in a pretty basket by a big comfy chair. My boys love to "read" the albums all the time!
This particular album is going to live on the dry sink I have in my entry way for a little while. At least until it is time for decorations again...probably until the 4th of July!
I hope this little tutorial was helpful! I love my new little album! :)

wonderful tut & I love you album! Looks great!
love the album it turned out very cute
What's so funny is that I went to a small local scrapbook store to look for the chipboard based on the templates you had. I couldn't remember the brand though, so I asked her to pull up your blog thinking I'd have her scroll down to where you had the templates posted. Lo and behold, you had posted this entry on them! It was perfect timing!
Very cute! I love it!!!! I may have to do a hybrid project now after all. Said I wouldn't for a while. Hmm...this is awfully cute. :)
FABULOUS tutorial - thanks so very much for taking the time to put this together - your album is adorable! Even I am tempted... and I've never EVER been a paper scrapper. LOL!!!
Thanks so much for this tutorial! I'm late to the hybrid bandwagon & for something that seems so simple (pasting digi-layouts to chipboard), I wasn't sure if I had all the steps right. I'm still a little unsure about the hole punching part, but as soon as my chipboard albums come in the mail, I'll be rfeady to go!
